Two individuals were arrested in connection with an armed robbery and shooting near St George Hospital in South Mumbai. The incident took place on the night of January 6, when a man and his nephew were traveling on a two-wheeler. They were carrying a bag containing gold ornaments worth ₹42.27 lakh. As they approached P D'Mello Road, four unidentified assailants intercepted them.
The assailants reportedly assaulted the man and his nephew. One of the attackers then fired at the nephew, injuring him in the leg. After shooting, the robbers snatched the bag containing the gold ornaments and fled the scene. The nephew, suffering from serious injuries, was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Police were informed of the robbery shortly after, and a case was registered based on the victim's complaint.
The investigation involved multiple police teams, and authorities reviewed CCTV footage from the vicinity to track the movements of the suspects. Additionally, the bag containing the gold ornaments had a GPS tracking chip, which significantly aided in the investigation. This technology allowed police to trace the bag's location and led to the arrest of one suspect near Lokmanya Tilak Marg early on January 7.
A second suspect was arrested in the Dongri area of South Mumbai. Police recovered ornaments worth ₹16.50 lakh from the second suspect during the arrest. Both suspects were taken into custody and are being questioned. Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the arrested individuals or any criminal records at this time.
The police continue to search for the remaining two suspects involved in the robbery and shooting. Further investigation is ongoing, and the authorities are analyzing additional footage and data to track the remaining suspects. The case remains under investigation, and no additional details regarding the injured nephew or updates on his condition have been provided.
